10 Signs You’re an Introvert with Anxiety

Anxiety causes a nagging thought that something terrible is going to happen. Being an introvert means you prefer calm situations and environments that aren’t stimulating. To be an introvert with anxiety means that you deal with both of those things at once.

The anxiety might cause you to stay up all night thinking about something you did years ago. You might also notice anxiety creeping in when you must attend social situations or something else that disrupts your schedule. If these are issues you deal with, then it is likely that you are an introvert with anxiety.

Being an introvert doesn’t mean you have anxiety; the two issues are very different. It is common to deal with both problems, however, despite their differences. They often occur together when someone is an introvert with anxiety.

Understanding Anxiety

introvert with anxietyPanic attacks, breathlessness, and sweaty palms sometimes characterize anxiety. However, this isn’t always the case because many people have high-functioning anxiety.

High-functioning anxiety means it seems like they are fine, even though they are dealing with overwhelming negative thoughts. Those that struggle with this can often be successful and involved in the community.

Those with high-functioning anxiety are often unable to relax. They don’t let their guard down and are always on high alert. Their mind won’t settle, and they are constantly thinking and planning.

Anxious people can be very successful, even with all of the fear they experience. Usually, other people can’t even tell that the anxious person is suffering at all.

About Introversion

Introversion means that you prefer calm environments without too much stimulation. Not every introvert experiences anxiety and you don’t have to be an introvert to struggle with it. Many introverts deal with anxiety, though, so it is common to be an introvert with anxiety.

Ten Signs You’re an Introvert with Anxiety

Do these behaviors sound like you?

1. You’re Always Prepared Because You Think of the Worst-Case Scenario

Those who suffer from anxiety tend to think of the worst-case scenario in any situation. Because of this, they over-prepare so that they are ready for anything. Often, people think this means the person is reliable, but they don’t want to be stuck without something they need.

2. You Have Trouble Sleeping

Anxiety commonly causes difficulty sleeping, and you might struggle with insomnia. Having trouble falling asleep at night is typical for an anxious people because of all the thoughts running through their minds. Since they always think the worst-case scenario will happen, they can’t settle their mind for long.

Unable to settle the thoughts causes a lack of sleep, and being an introvert with anxiety intensifies the issue. When you struggle with both problems, you will have even more thoughts overwhelming your mind as you try to switch off. You will want to calm your thoughts and find peace, but the anxiety will pull you the other way.

Not only will you have trouble sleeping, but you will also frequently wake up during the night. Once you have settled in to sleep, it might not be very restful, especially if you suffer from constant wake-ups.

3. You’re Often Nervous but Don’t Show It

Introverts like to keep the peace, and this means they will hide their true feelings of nervousness. On the inside, they might be freaking out, and the anxiety might be overwhelming. They will still appear fine on the outside, though, not letting the turmoil shine through in the slightest.

If you notice that you can do this, then you are likely an introvert with anxiety. Keeping a calm demeanor while experiencing severe anxiety is a sure sign.

4. You Nervously Chatter

While you might not show how nervous you are, you can find yourself chattering nervously. Introverts tend to prefer quiet, but your nervousness will cause you to talk constantly instead.

Other people don’t always realize that you are doing it because you are nervous. Since they don’t know, it often makes them think that you are an extrovert or like to talk. Truthfully, though, this is how introverts with anxiety handle being nervous.

5. You Hide Your Feelings

In addition to hiding their nervousness, introverts with anxiety work hard to hide their other feelings, too. If you are someone that does this, you will notice that you suppress your emotions and thoughts. Others think you’re hard to read when you’re just trying to hide feelings that you perceive to be negative.

Feelings like stress, anger, frustration, irritability, and sadness are all emotions you might try to hide. You do this because you have taught yourself that the feelings are harmful and will make it so that others don’t like you.

pop quote6. You See Things Differently Than Others

People with anxiety see things differently than other people do. Studies show it is harder for an anxious person to determine a safe situation. They associate more things as being a threat and tend to be on the lookout for such.

Seeing the differences is easy if you compare your reaction to that of others. Other people might seem calm, collected, and unafraid of their surroundings. At the same time, you might still be nervous for seemingly no reason.

If this situation often happens to you, then there is a good chance you are dealing with anxiety. It isn’t that the perceived threat is a figment of your imagination. Instead, it shows that you think differently than other people.

7. You Avoid Things You Can’t Control and Prefer to Stick to Your Routine

Introverts with anxiety tend to make their world as small as possible. They do this to prevent becoming overwhelmed or uncomfortable.

If you are this way, you will stick to your routines as often as you can. Plus, you will turn to situations you can control. Traveling, social events, conflict, or any other emotional experience will also trigger you.

If you get upset when plans change and struggle to be flexible, it is another sign you might be an introvert with anxiety. People who aren’t reliable might annoy you, and you don’t like to do things without a plan.

8. You Overthink and Give in to Negative Self-Talk

Those with anxiety tend to overthink, often leading to negative self-talk. They play every part of their day over in their mind until they have convinced themselves that it didn’t go well. Overthinking will happen after conversations, interactions, and any other little thing that happened.

The overthinking won’t only overwhelm them the same day, either. They might think about the same upsetting situation over again for weeks or months. If you notice that you are a culprit of this behavior, you might also experience a racing mind.

Your mind will dwell on things that don’t matter or can’t be changed. Plus, you will give in to the negative self-talk that follows, leading to self-deprecating thoughts and behavior.

9. You Always Have to Be Doing Something

Relaxing might be hard for you because you always need to do something. You will stay busy, getting things done and getting ahead. Staying productive is a coping mechanism for anxiety, as it keeps your mind off of the issue.

Plus, staying busy gives you a sense of control over your life. You might notice that people compliment you on how productive you are, not realizing that you do it to suppress your anxiety.

For some, this even means that sitting down to watch a TV Show or movie is impossible. Even then, you feel the need to keep your hands and mind busy with something else.

10. You’re a Perfectionist and Have a Fear of Disappointing Others

Worrying about disappointing others and feeling the need to be perfect is a sign you’re an introvert with anxiety. Not wanting to disappoint others means that you put the happiness of others before your own, forcing yourself to sacrifice your needs.

You will need to be perfect at work, home, and appearance. This mindset leads to unrealistic expectations and overwhelming fear. It can also make you feel like you constantly fall short and are never good enough (even though you are).

Being a perfectionist and wanting to please others happens because people with anxiety feel better when they are in control. They can control their life’s course if they push themselves to be perfect. Unfortunately, it often leaves them feeling like they didn’t do enough or make the right choice because perfection is impossible.

25 Red Flags of a Toxic and Unhealthy Relationship

Do you feel like you might be stuck in a toxic or unhealthy relationship?

Even the best relationships aren’t always easy. However, there should be some joy and happiness between the two of you. Your partner should love and accept you without trying to change you. Things always begin as exciting and magical, but once you settle into a routine, it takes work.

However, once you learn about your partner and their ways, you may find that you’re in an unhealthy relationship. A healthy union is about trust, respect, and honesty, and you should always appreciate one another and your boundaries. No person should have any control over the other one.

You may often question whether you’re in a healthy relationship or if something is off. Thankfully, there are some clear indications that the person you thought was perfect has more problems than a math book. If someone were waving a red flag in front of you, would you notice it?

25 Red Flags of an Unhealthy Relationship

Do you think your relationship is healthy, or do you worry that something isn’t right? Don’t ignore those gut instincts that tell you something is off. Here are the twenty-five things that may indicate trouble in paradise.

unhealthy relationship1. Being Overly Critical of You

Someone who is overly critical of you will make you feel like you can’t do anything right. Whether it’s cooking a meal or buying them a gift, they make you feel like everything you do is wrong. This can affect your self-esteem, but the problem is not your issue. Rather, it indicates some hidden challenges within themselves.

2. Poor Communication

Sometimes you feel like you’re guessing what’s going on in their life, as they don’t keep you in the loop. There are so many things you want to say, yet you two don’t talk about things. It seems as if there’s always this err of mystery between the two of you because communication is poor.

3. Keeping Secrets

One or both of you keeping secrets from each other is a recipe for disaster. A healthy relationship should have no secrets, and you should feel confident enough to tell your partner everything.

4. Lying

Deception is a horrible thing in a relationship. If you can’t trust your partner, then who can you trust? If they lie to you once, then they will lie time and again.

5. Cheating

It’s never okay to cheat on someone. Cheating means different things to different people, but even if they step outside the relationship for an emotional affair, it’s not okay. Remember, if they cheat one time, they will do it again when the opportunity arises.

6. Lack of Respect

A general sense of respect is essential in a relationship. Respecting one another is what keeps your connection special. When there’s a lack of respect, they will not consider your feelings, call names during arguments, and generally treat you poorly.

7. Can’t Trust One Another

When someone lies, cheats, or does other things to make you distrust them, then one of the foundations of the relationship is broken. You must be able to trust that your partner has your best interests at heart.

8. Control Issues

Do they try to control you? Do you feel like you have no say in your life anymore? When someone has control issues, they will dictate every facet of your life. They want to say what you can do, who you can hang out with, and how much money you will spend. Seriously, you don’t need another parent.

9. Lack of Commitment

Committing to one another is essential. If you’re stuck in the friend’s zone for too long, it can cause feelings of resentment. When someone refuses to commit to you, it’s a sign that there are some underlying issues. You want someone proud to call you their partner, and they will shout it to the rooftops and not hide it from people.

10. Treats Friends or Family Poorly

Watch how your partner treats your friends and family members. Do they become jealous when they see you interacting with others? Your family and friends are important to you, so they must be treated with the utmost respect.

11. Monopolizes Time

One of the tricks of a toxic individual is to monopolize your time. Under the surface is a fear that you will leave them if you get around other people, so they try to take up as much of your day as possible.

12. Gaslighting Occurs in an Unhealthy Relationship

It’s downright annoying and unhealthy when someone never believes they are wrong. Even worse, they try to pin their wrongs on you. They will make you think and feel that you’re losing your sanity if it means protecting yourself.
gaslighting phrases

13. Never Apologizes

They’re never wrong, ever! They won’t admit to any wrongdoing even if it’s right in front of them. They would rather lie, cheat, or do whatever possible to keep from getting caught.

14. Extreme Jealousy

Extreme jealousy is not only a sign of an unhealthy relationship, but it can be dangerous. Berit Brogaard D.M.Sci., Ph.D. from Psychology Today, writes that morbid jealousy is a pathological control. The issues usually stem from the fear of sexual unfaithfulness, and unless this person gets help, your life will be miserable.

15. Giving Up Individuality

Do you feel like you’re not an individual anymore, but rather someone else controls every aspect of your life? When you can’t even decide if you can go to the grocery store alone, something is wrong. It’s not healthy to give up the things you love to please or hold onto a partner.

16. Verbal Abuse

There is never any reason to call names, put someone down, and make them feel less than. Derogatory verbal displays are things that children partake in, and bullying at any age isn’t acceptable. You don’t have to live this way, as there’s someone out there that will respect you and treat you right.

17. Physical Abuse

If someone hits you once, get out! There is no call for any physical abuse in a relationship. You’re not a toddler that gets to hit, punch, kick, or bite people. No one should ever lay a hand on you in anger, and if they do it once, they will do it again. There are too many programs out there to help people in these situations.

18. Addiction Issues

When there is an alcohol or drug dependency issue within your relationships, it’s toxic. Someone who loves the feeling of a drug more than you is trouble. They will cause you significant emotional distress as well as break you financially. If they don’t get the help they need, then you must move on.

19. Financial Dependence

Financial dependence is another significant issue in an unhealthy relationship. When one party doesn’t work and totally depends on the other for their needs, it can cause trouble. Also, it’s imperative that finances are done together and not one person dominating the money.

20. A Secretive Past

Do they not talk about their past? Is it as if they have no family or friends before you? When there’s a secretive past, you need to find out why. It’s usually because they have a history of unhealthy relationships.

21. Never There for You

They want you to be there for them at the drop of a hat but don’t expect the same consideration in return. They may have a dependent personality disorder, which is even worse. According to the National Library of Medicine, this person has an extreme need to be cared for, but don’t expect them to take care of you in your hour of need.

22. Family and Friends Don’t Like Them

Listen to your family and friends, especially if they feel you’re in an unhealthy relationship. Often, people on the outside can see your relationship very differently than you, and they can give you a different view of things. Don’t be so quick to toss their observations to the side.

23. Bad Temper or Anger Issues

Anger issues are a sign of trouble. Many hostile people will escalate to abuse if they don’t get things under control.

24. Gut Instincts Tell You Something’s Off

Your gut instincts are there to protect you. Don’t be so quick to toss aside these feelings, as they may save you from many heartaches.

25. You Have No Say

You deserve to have a say in your life. If you feel like someone is controlling you to the point where you don’t even run your life anymore, then it’s an unhealthy relationship, and you need to get out.

You must love yourself enough to know when things aren’t healthy. Please don’t get on the merry-go-round where you can’t break free because you feel attached or dependent on them.

Someone out there will love and take care of you the way you need them to, so don’t waste your time on all the people who are toxic and will destroy you emotionally. Avoid staying trapped in an unhealthy relationship by using these twenty-five tips as your guide.

Artist Uses Awesome Realistic Miniature Building Materials

Erik Polumbo, co-owner of Mini Materials, started the miniature building company with his college buddy Mat Hofma. Together, they’ve created a successful company, selling realistic miniature items such as bricks, cinder blocks, pallets, lumber and more. For those who enjoy the world of mini dioramas and art, the Mini Materials will definitely come in handy. Here’s the story of two men who set out to become the leaders in miniature building materials.

“Our mission is to create, manufacture and scale miniature building materials in realistic format throughout the world,” Erik says.

It seems that they’ve accomplished this goal, selling their items made in the US to a global audience. On their site, they offer everything from masonry items to furniture, woodworking supplies, fingerboard parks, cement mixes and molds, and more. No matter what you want to build, they can help you turn your vision into reality!

All the products have the scale listed (ex. 1:12 scale) so you can get an idea of item sizes. The company also includes a quarter in most pictures of the items for reference. You can even order custom-made red bricks, pallets, and cinder blocks with your logo on them!

The miniature building company has come a long way since its inception six years ago. What started out as just a dream turned into something much bigger than the guys could’ve expected. The miniature art scene has exploded over the years; there are even festivals and shows worldwide dedicated to this art form. It may still be considered “underground,” but clearly, there’s enough of a demand to yield a thriving business.

Erik Polumbo and Mat Hofma’s success with Mini Materials highlights the fascinating world of miniature building and the creativity it inspires. Their passion for realistic, tiny-scale construction materials has tapped into a niche market of diorama artists, hobbyists, and collectors who enjoy bringing their miniature visions to life.

From miniature bricks to cinder blocks and pallets, the duo has created a platform where creativity meets craftsmanship on a small scale. The fact that their products are made in the US and shipped globally showcases how something so unique can flourish, thanks to a shared dedication to quality and precision. Their ability to scale and personalize items for customers further sets them apart in the world of miniature art.

On a much larger scale, the principles of craftsmanship and attention to detail are also foundational in the field of masonry construction. For example, Brick Experts understands the importance of quality and precision in every project, whether it’s for residential, commercial, or industrial purposes. Their expertise in masonry services, from brickwork to concrete and stone applications, mirrors the dedication found in the world of miniature building.

Just as Mini Materials caters to the intricate needs of diorama builders, Brick Experts works to ensure that every brick, mortar, and stone used in construction is carefully placed, resulting in durable and aesthetically pleasing structures. Whether it’s a home exterior or a commercial building, masonry construction relies on skilled professionals who, like the creators of Mini Materials, take pride in the craft, ensuring that the final product stands the test of time.

The miniature building company had humble beginnings, now it’s anything but small

“[Mat] started the company in 2015 working out of his garage. He looked everywhere [and] couldn’t find anyone else doing realistic miniature building supplies at scale,” Erik says.

“[He] decided there was a little niche there, brought me along, and the rest is history. The most rewarding thing we do is we nail our designs, we add some humor to the cause of what we’re trying to do, and we do everything in our power to exceed the customer expectation and experience.”

According to an interview on Starter Story, their best-selling product by far is the cinder blocks. They even provide molds for you to pour your own cement! What started as Erik making a few cinder block molds from 3D prints for fun transformed into a full-fledged business. With a background in graphic design, he knew he wanted to start his own e-commerce store. If you also create interior and exterior house designs, you may use an ai architecture generator to better present your designs to your clients.

However, he couldn’t think of what to sell until he stumbled upon a guy making his own mini cinder blocks on Reddit. That inspired him to make his own molds. When Erik posted his development story on Reddit, many people seemed interested in the idea. They didn’t even know they wanted or needed mini cinder blocks in their life until Erik mentioned it!

A few years later, their business really took off. Now they’ve expanded the product lines to include mini masonry and even DIY kits to build models. Some people buy them as fun toys for their kids, while others use the miniature building materials to create art. Either way, it seems that the mini art world continues to grow and inspire thousands all over the world!

Anyone can enjoy the miniature building materials, from kids to adults alike

Miniature building materials aren’t just for art collectors or hobbyists. They have plenty of other uses, from teaching tools to fun gifts. On the company’s Instagram page, it’s interesting to see what people create with the products. One man even constructed his own mini hospital and apartment! Miniature artists have a knack for creating realistic, meticulously detailed scenes. It’s amazing to see what they come up with!

Here’s a little more background about the Mini Materials company, taken from their website:

“Our journey began in 2015 when we noticed the world was lacking realistic versions of the most common building materials used today. We set out to create the most appealing approach, avoiding plastics and paint, rather than working with the same recipes used for the larger versions. we have expanded our line to include various scales and products familiar to the construction world.

“We are now the world’s leader in manufacturing and selling the most realistic miniature building supplies available. Supplies like cinder blocks, red bricks, jersey barriers, pallets and lumber all made the same way their replicated versions are made, using real cement, wood and nails. These are all handmade in the USA.

“These make for great fidget toys on your desk, gifts for the people in your life that have just about everything, fantastic teaching tools for math & architecture, and for those hobbyists that like to build realistic dioramas, dollhouses or models.”

Erik says: “In the future, we hope to be a household name in the miniature art and building world. I appreciate you listening, and go build something!”

9 Behaviors That Prove a Link Between Perfectionism and Anxiety

How many times have you heard the saying that nobody’s perfect? While most people know this, their lives can still be upset by a false façade. Perfectionism and anxiety often go hand in hand, making life difficult for you and anyone in your circle.

Of course, anything that you do is worth your best shot. Where would your life be without dreams? When you work hard and do your best, there’s no telling what you can accomplish.

However, the shackles of perfectionism are more of a hindrance than a help. Positive achievers realize that making mistakes is normal and is a way to learn and grow. Perfectionists may lack personal growth because any mistake is viewed as a complete failure.

When you’re a positive achiever, you can define your goals and figure out strategies for completing them. Often, perfectionists can’t stay focused on their dreams because they are too worried that the process may have a flaw. Instead of accepting a challenge, they may miss out on many blessings in their lives.

The Link Between Perfectionism and Anxiety

According to an article published by the Mayo Clinic, it’s common to have some anxiety. However, it becomes an anxiety disorder when you have overwhelming worry and fear about everyday things. It’s a feeling of stress and being afraid that you’ll lose control.

The link between perfectionism and anxiety is evident when you consider the thoughts behind each condition. Alex Dimitriu M.D. wrote an article on Psychology Today that states perfectionism can include self-criticism, fear of failure, and impossibly high expectations. These symptoms may be rooted in an anxiety disorder.

Behaviors of a Perfectionist

pop memeBeing a perfectionist goes beyond doing a good job. It’s being trapped in expectations that aren’t based on reality. Instead of doing your best and completing your goals, perfectionism leaves you spinning in circles of anxiety.

Most people who are stuck in perfectionism like to brag about it because it temporarily boosts their esteem. It’s a “better than you” attitude that is a big turn-off to most people. Perfectionists don’t want to admit that they’re afraid of making mistakes and being less than perfect.

Can you see yourself in any of these examples? Maybe perfectionism is holding you back from your best life. Here are nine behaviors of perfectionism and how they can be causing you anxiety.

1. Afraid of Failure

Your parents taught you to do your best and nothing less. You also want to succeed and be proud of your accomplishments. If you are hampered by perfectionism, anything less than being perfect is a failure.

Such a restrictive attitude may keep you from trying new ventures because you’re afraid of failing. You may also procrastinate because of this fear. When you are so caught up in equating perfection with success, it can build up a lot of anxiety.

2. Want It All or Nothing

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to do your best. Working hard to achieve your goals is a virtue. Most people try their best and can be satisfied at the end of the day with their efforts.

Unfortunately, perfectionists aren’t happy with the best they can do. If their results aren’t unrealistically perfect, they may become anxious, depressed, and moody. The union of perfectionism and anxiety robs them of any satisfaction and the drive to do new things.

3. Creates Unrealistic Expectations

Assume you’re a perfectionist about your home, and you’re constantly flipping through magazines for pictures of the perfect house. While it’s a beautiful idea to find inspiration for various projects in your life, you can’t make unfair comparisons.

Did you realize that those glamorous photos of homes and gardens are usually staged? It’s unrealistic to think that your home will be as perfect and spot-free as these examples. These idealized photos neglect the fact that you must live in your home, and it will get messy at times, especially with kids.

Perfectionism and anxiety also can affect your self-image. No honest person can live up to the Hollywood photos of models. The lights, cameras, airbrushing, and computer tricks are blatantly deceptive.

imperfections4. Overly Defensive

When you expect all you do to be perfect, you’ll often want praise from others. If you don’t get enough compliments or someone offers a bit of constructive criticism, it may put you on the defense.

Perfectionists are often highly anxious people, and they will defend their skewed sense of accomplishment. Do you often feel angry and resentful because people aren’t living up to your expectations? It could be a red flag for perfectionism.

5. Depression

Even with your best efforts, you may not accomplish every goal you want, and it happens to everyone. Unfortunately for the perfectionist, they are so focused on anything negative that they can’t see anything positive.

Perfectionism and anxiety often bring depression into a tangled web. Maybe you feel depressed because every goal in your life didn’t work out perfectly. Have you stopped to consider the many objectives that you have accomplished already?

6. Often Procrastinate

It doesn’t make sense that people who are perfectionists are often procrastinators. While they view avoidance as a bad habit, they may often procrastinate because of their anxiety. In this state of mind, they are so worried that their task won’t be perfect that they end up doing nothing at all.

In a study published by McNair’s Scholars Journal, Carin Echols calls this a Jekyll and Hyde Paradox. Echols says that some people can positively use procrastination, especially those who work well under pressure. However, it is usually a negative aspect that takes its cue from unrealistic expectations and fear of failure.

7. Low Self-Esteem

If you have low self-esteem, you may think that you must work harder than anybody else. You may be unfairly critical of yourself and believe that perfection is your only key to redemption. The problem is that when your fantasy goals don’t work out, your self-esteem may dip even lower, causing anxiety and depression.

8. Lack of Enjoyment

Part of going on vacation is enjoying the trip to your destination. The same is true for focusing on a task and completing it. For most people, the process is just as exciting and rewarding as reaching the goal.

The same can’t be said of perfectionists. Since they view tasks through the fogged lenses of procrastination and anxiety, their positivity is minimal. They may fret so much about doing each step perfectly that they never find joy.

Think of an example of an uptight host. They are often so anxious to make the evening perfect that they can’t enjoy time with their guests. They often forget that people are more important than putting on an excellent production.

9. Often Overly Critical

Perfectionism and anxiety create a dark vortex that often affects those around you. If you are a perfectionist, you probably have unfair expectations of everybody else. You may tend to be more critical and shift the blame when things don’t go your way.

These are often the people who are unreasonable and rude to the waitstaff and others who work in public. They want everything and everyone to be perfect, and they’ll be the first to criticize when it’s not. Perfectionists often experience strained relationships, both personal and professional.

Three Tips for Overcoming Perfectionism (and thus, helping to stop anxiety!)

Part of being a fallible human is that you can develop unhealthy traits such as perfectionism. While you should always have high standards, you must keep them within the bounds of reality. Here are three steps to consider for overcoming these thought patterns.

1. Take off the Superhero Cape

The sooner you realize that nobody’s perfect, including yourself, the sooner you can take a breather from perfectionism. When you’re overwhelmed with a negative thought, replace it with a positive one. For example: “I may not be a perfect parent, but I am trying to be the best I can be.”

2. Consider the Big Picture

If you get lost in the details, it may help you to focus on the results. Yes, there are going to be learning curves in achieving your goals. If you’re tempted to fret about a mistake in the details, try to ask yourself if it matters in the end.

3. Learn to Compromise

Some perfectionists get a little arrogant in their opinions about how things should be done. Do you stop and consider other people’s thoughts and ideas? When you make compromises, you may find that your way wasn’t so perfect after all.

perfectionism and anxietyFinal Thoughts on Overcoming Your Tendency to Perfectionism and Anxiety

Are you tired of the anxiety and other negative emotions that perfectionism causes? It’s time to take a deep breath and stop putting unreal expectations on yourself and others. You’ll soon discover that it’s often the imperfect moments that make life so beautiful and unique.

10 Full Body Stretches to Improve Flexibility and Balance

Doesn’t it feel wonderful to stretch? Whether you do it upon awakening or after a hard day at work, full body stretches can help you relieve the tension built up in your body.

A full body stretch also soothes your muscles and can make your joints more flexible.  Consider the following example.

Have you ever watched your beloved pets enjoy a healthy stretch after a nap? They instinctively know that’s what their body needs after being in one position for a while.

According to Dr. David Nolan in an article published by Harvard Medical School, stretching helps maintain your mobility and independence.

Perhaps you’ve seen athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and dancers do a series of whole-body stretches before their activities begin. These warmup exercises help prepare your muscles and joints to perform at optimal levels. Without this preparation, a sudden movement or jolt could cause severe injuries to your body.

Now, consider the condition of your body when you’ve been in one position for hours, such as sleeping or sitting in an office chair. Most of your muscles are contracted, and your joints haven’t moved a lot. When you stretch in the mornings or after driving or sitting for extended periods, it gives your body a jumpstart to move safely.

Adding Stretches to Your Daily Routine

Very few people have the dubious privilege of lying on the sofa and eating chocolate all day. Your life is filled to the max as you take care of your personal and professional duties. Even when you try to take a breather finally, you’re probably busy checking emails and social media.

Although you may not have much free time, you make it because keeping your body fit is a priority. It’s also essential that you include entire body stretches in your exercise routine. An article published by the Mayo Clinic recommends that you try to stretch at least three times a week.

Three Positive Benefits of Stretching

You already know how pleasant a morning stretch is. Not only does full-body stretching ease your muscles, tendons, and joints, but you’ll see a difference in how you feel. Here are some of the benefits you can get from stretching.

full body stretches1. Maintain Your Mobility

As you age, it’s common to lose a little cartilage in your joints, and you’re a little less limber. You may also notice that your joints have less range of motion than in the past. Fortunately, stretching may minimize joint stiffness and help you maintain a healthy range of motion.

2. Full Body Stretches May Prevent Injury

Preparation is the key to any physical activity, be it for work or pleasure. Full body stretching provides that crucial warm-up your body needs to prevent strains, sprains, and other injuries. It’s also important to stretch the right ways not to get hurt in that process.

3. May Benefit Your Mental Health

Who would have guessed that giving your body a comforting stretch would also boost your mental health? Correct stretching involves mindful breathing, which can lower your anxiety and help you to relax.

An article published by Healthy Women cites Jamie Longval, a certified strengthening and conditioning specialist. Longval explains that stretching can help lengthen your muscles, which may alleviate stress. The less stress you have, the less tension you may carry in your body and mind.

Ten Full Body Stretches to Try

Are you ready to relieve some tension in your muscles and joints? Stretching is a gentle way to do it. Talk to your healthcare provider or a certified fitness instructor about adding these ten full body stretches to your exercise routine.

BEFORE YOU START: Everyone’s body is different, and not every stretch is right for you. If you feel any pain when doing these or other stretching exercises, stop immediately. This is especially important if you have issues with your back, neck, or other joints and muscles.

1. Shoulders & Chest Stretch

  • As you stand or sit in a comfortable position, bring your hands together and interlace your fingers loosely. Try to keep your back and arms straight as possible.
  • Now, gently bring your hands above your head as high as you comfortably can while inhaling through your nose. You’ll notice the stretch in your chest and shoulder. Hold this position for fifteen to twenty seconds.
  • Exhale through your mouth as you bring your hands and arms back to the starting position. Your goal for this stretch is two to three repetitions.

2. Quad Stretch

  • If you need something to help, you balance, hold onto a wall or the back of a sturdy chair.
  • Stand in a comfortable position and bend your right knee until your foot is behind you. Clutch your foot and gently pull it toward your behind while your right knee is pointing down straight to the floor. Inhale and hold your breath between ten and fifteen seconds.
  • Exhale through your mouth as you return to the starting position. Switch and repeat steps for your left leg. Do two or three repetitions per side.

3. Hamstring Stretch

  • Bring your right foot in front of you by tipping from your hips and keeping your back flat as possible.
  • Gently lower yourself until the back of your right leg feels the stretch. Give yourself support by placing your hands on your upper thighs. Inhale and hold for fifteen to thirty seconds.
  • Exhale smoothly and return to the starting position. Switch to your left foot and repeat the steps. Repeat two or three times for each side.

4. Biceps Stretch

  • Sit comfortably and bring both arms out to your sides and slightly behind you. Make a fist with your thumbs pointing toward the ceiling.
  • Now, use your biceps to rotate your thumbs down until the point in front of you. Inhale and hold your breath for twenty to thirty seconds, then exhale as you bring your thumbs back to start. Repeat this stretch two to five times.

5. Upper Back Stretch

  • Stand comfortably and bring your hands together until they clasp straight in front of you. If you have stability issues, you can do this from your knees and place your elbows on a table to help you remain balanced.
  • As you inhale through your nostrils, gently press your arms away from your body and arch your upper back. You should feel your abs contracting, too.
  • Hold your breath for ten to fifteen seconds and exhale as you come back into the starting position. Try to repeat this stretch two or three times.

6. Shoulder Stretch

  • Stand comfortably and bring your left arm across your chest while cupping your left elbow with your right hand.
  • Now, inhale and gently pull on your left elbow to stretch your arm and shoulder. Just pull until you feel a comfortable stretch, not pain.
  • Hold the position for twenty seconds, then exhale while returning to the starting position. Switch sides and do the same steps for your right arms. Strive for two or three repetitions on each side.

7. Triceps Stretch

  • Stand or sit comfortably while keeping your back straight as possible. As you inhale, raise your left elbow until it’s right behind your head and your forearm is against your back.
  • Use your left hand to gently pull your bent right elbow just close enough until you feel your triceps stretching.
  • Hold for at least fifteen seconds and return to the starting position while exhaling. Switch to your right arm and repeat the steps. Your goal is two to three repetitions on each side.

8. Side Stretch

  • You can do this full body stretch while standing or sitting.
  • Bring your arms straight over your head and clasp your hands so your palms are facing upwards.
  • Inhale as you stretch your arms up and bend them toward the right until you feel a gentle stretch in your left side. Hold the position for ten to fifteen seconds.
  • Exhale and come back to the first position. Now, repeat the steps and lean toward the left. Your goal is one to three repetitions per side.

9. Hip Stretch

  • Lie comfortably on your back. Bend both your knees until your feet are flat on the mat and your hands naturally at both sides.
  • First, pull your right knee as close to your chest as you comfortably can. You’ll feel a gentle stretch in your right hip. Your calves should be crossing over your body.
  • Inhale and pull your left knee in the same position toward your chest. You should feel the shins or ankles of both legs touching.
  • Wrap your hands around your knees and gently pull them closer to your body without experiencing pain. Hold this position for ten to fifteen seconds. Exhale and repeat two or three times.

10. Inner Thigh Stretch

  • Sit comfortably on your mat with your back as straight as possible.
  • Bend your knees until they point out to the left and the right.
  • Bring your feet in until your soles are touching each other or as close as you can get.
  • Now, lean forward a bit and grab both feet with your hands. Use your elbows to push down on your knees gently. You will notice a stretch in both right and left hips.
  • Try to hold the position for ten to fifteen breaths. Try to do between one and three repetitions.

Final Thoughts on Full Body Stretches

Take a cue from athletes and other fitness buffs and give your body a good stretch each day. It’s easy to do and may help keep your muscles and joints strong and more flexible. Using full body stretches can keep you healthy and feeling great.

This Adorable Golden Retriever Has a Huge Personality

Golden retrievers are one of the most popular family pets for many reasons. They’re friendly, playful, affectionate, loving, and cuddly – not to mention, they have hearts of gold! Of course, they’re majestic, beautiful dogs on the outside as well, but they shine even brighter from within. This hard-working sporting dog is loyal and highly intelligent, making them irresistible to any dog lover.

Goldens are also known for having a goofy personality; they love to make people laugh! Since they’re so open and friendly with strangers, they don’t make good guard dogs. However, they make up for it with their positive energy and zest for life. Whether you’re cuddling on the couch or hiking through mountains, a Golden retriever will stand faithfully by your side.

One Golden Retriever named Sterling lives up to his breed description to a T. He’s the centerpiece of the family, and they never leave him out of events or activities. When you have a Golden, you’ll naturally want to spend as much time with them as possible. After all, dogs are known to cheer you up and calm you down simultaneously, especially the kindhearted Golden.

Meet Sterling, an adorable golden retriever

Below, we’ll introduce you to Sterling the Golden Retriever, a comedian, and stealer of clothes and hearts!

“His favorite thing to do is actually steal clothes. So he goes upstairs every morning to somebody’s bedroom, and he comes toddling down the stairs with something in his mouth,” his owner says. “And then he usually takes it to the garden and drops it. Then I have to go and pick it up. He also refuses to come back in the door unless I give him a treat, so we call that taxes.”

The two-year-old puppy with a big personality

When Sterling isn’t making his family laugh with his kleptomania, he enjoys bonding with them in other ways. Basically, whatever the family is doing, Sterling wants to be included too. It’s no wonder dogs have been man’s best friend for centuries; they’re beautiful creatures. Without saying a word, a dog can turn your whole day or life around and give you a renewed strength and purpose.

“I have to say, he’s changed our lives in so many ways and brought the whole family closer together than we already were,” his mom says.

“I’m fortunate enough to stay home, so I spend most of my days with Sterling. Our favorite thing to do is go on adventures. So, we’re lucky enough to live near a lake, so we go down to the lake, and he can swim in the water. And, we go to a lot of parks, and then I just take him on drives, and we have puppuccinos. Sometimes we grab lunch, and it’s just fun to hang out together,” she says.

Many dogs enjoy getting the whipped cream treat from Starbucks, the puppuccino. While humans might look upon plain whipped cream with boredom, dogs lap it up (literally!) If you don’t have a human best friend, a dog makes a wonderful companion. They can do everything that people can do, as Sterling’s owner described above. Whether you’re going out for lunch or exploring nature, a Golden Retriever would love to accompany you!

Sterling’s mom (and his whole family) appreciate him beyond words. He’s given them so much love and comfort, and their lives wouldn’t be the same without him around. If you get a Golden Retriever, you’ll always have a best friend for life.

Sterling, the Golden Retriever, is truly one-of-a-kind

Golden Retrievers also age very well and never seem to lose their cuteness! You can cuddle them as both puppies and adults, and it will never get old. Sterling’s mom Diane, who manages his social media pages, gets to spend the most time with him. She’s gotten to see him grow up, and now they’re two peas in a pod.

“I would say probably the best memory is the day we brought him home. He was just a cute little ball of fluff, and he just bounced around the house and then fell asleep,” Diane says. “He was just adorable, and obviously, he still is. The most rewarding thing about having a dog is just the unconditional love that they give you. They’re always just happy to see you, they don’t judge you, and they just bring so much fulfillment to your life.”

It’s easy to see why the beloved Golden Retriever continually makes the top ten list for family dogs. They don’t bark a lot, they have an easygoing temperament, and they’re some of the most lovable dogs around. They also have tons of energy and fit in well with an active family. However, they adapt easily and can also lounge around the house if you’re more low-key.

The Golden is also one of the most popular therapy dogs because of its soothing, softhearted nature. Their empathy and unconditional love help heal the hearts and souls of many, from war veterans to the elderly and anyone in between.

“If I was to give advice to somebody looking to get a puppy or rescue even, I would say the first few months can be pretty tough, especially with puppies,” Diane says. “They bite a lot, they need a lot of attention. Once you’re over that first few months, things just get easier. It’s just the best thing ever, and they’re such a big part of your family.”

Final thoughts on the Golden Retriever that will steal your heart

While Goldens have similar personalities, Sterling stands out because of his strange habit of stealing clothes. It’s clear that he loves to make his family laugh, and he’ll do anything to put a smile on their faces. He might just be following his instincts, though, since retrievers have been bred to fetch animals or items.

Even though his family has to pick up after him, they love Sterling to pieces. He’s changed their lives for the better, and each day they spend together is a blessing in their book.

Artist Preserves Culture and Heritage in Miniature Art

Pui Wan, a miniature artist from Malaysia, aims to preserve her heritage and culture through her stunning creations. She spends hours, sometimes days, meticulously crafting tiny versions of everyday products and scenery. For Pui, it’s not just about preserving her heritage but following her passion in life. While she graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2014, Pui decided to create miniature art full-time instead.

Today, Pui runs a successful Etsy shop and creates commercial, custom-made artwork as well. She’s also been featured in several media outlets, even giving a TedTalk about her life’s work in 2018. Recently, she appeared on Ryan Reynolds’ show called “Ryan Doesn’t Know,” where she taught him how to make a mini hairdryer!

Her work appeals to visitors and natives alike. It gives foreigners a glimpse into Malaysian culture while creating a nostalgic feel for the locals. Pui’s work brings the world together in a way because it reminds people to preserve their culture, whatever that might be.

Pui enjoys the fact that her artwork keeps her childhood memories alive and pays tribute to her heritage. It’s a way to capture life’s sentimental moments and allow people to relive fond memories. Perhaps the most fantastic part of her story is that she’s entirely self-taught. She got into the craft years before graduating and carried her love for miniature art through college. It simply took reading a book about the art form to capture her interest forever.

“I first stumbled upon miniature art from a book, and that book is teaching how to make miniatures,” Pui said. “It was about 2007, and I was quite young; I was immediately obsessed with it because I was quite surprised and didn’t know we can turn something so small.”

Preserving heritage and telling stories through miniature art

Pui creates a large assortment of dioramas and objects, from houses to workshops to food stalls. Her creativity seems to have no bounds! It’s inspiring to watch her artwork come to life and seeing the intricate details involved in the process. It certainly requires a lot of patience and dedication to making the miniature art, and Pui makes it look effortless!

Some of her greatest accomplishments include the following creations:

  • A scissors sharpening shop. She decided to interview a local man who used to run his store. He’s retired now, but people still seek him out to sharpen dull scissors. After learning the details about his shop, she created a beautiful replica of the craftsman’s store. It includes work tables, tools, machinery, and other items you’d find in a scissors sharpening store.
  • A barbershop. While the shop closed in early 2020, its memory lives on in the mini art replica created by Pui. It includes the classic barber chairs, hairdryers and shampoos, and even a clock on the wall. She brought it to the shop before it closed, and the resemblance between the two is remarkable.
  • An old coffee shop. On her website, Pui describes visiting a local coffee shop hidden away from the chaos of the city. It’s located in an alley where her sister took her wedding photos. After she visited the shop, Pui fell in love with the scenery and decided to recreate it. The alley has since been reconstructed, but Pui preserved the culture and heritage of the area in her work. It’s complete with vintage-style Malaysian architecture and doors and tables, artwork, coffee cups, and breakfast foods. She says: “This work contains the art of building structure from our ancestors and the memories among the neighborhoods.”
  • A home and garden. A man asked Pui to construct a replica of his parents’ home since they lived far away from him. It contains all the luxuries of home, including furniture, outdoor plants, and even family pets!

Process of creating the miniature art

Much of Pui’s creations are handmade, and basic tools used include foam boards, wood, plastic, and paper. She also utilizes tiny paintbrushes, paints, and wire to create color and texture. Pui takes advantage of paper scraps as well to make the scenes realistic. After all, most cafes, homes, and shops have newspapers, magazines, and menus lying around.

“As a handmade artist, I love to try to make something by my hand without using [a] laser cut machine or 3D printer,” Pui says. “Because sometimes I think it’s good to challenge yourself and train yourself to make something that you have never made before.”

She aims to capture the essence of every business, scene, and home she creates. Pui pays great attention to detail, making sure to label all food items and bottles accurately. It takes great precision and willpower to construct the miniature art. But, being able to portray her heritage makes it all worth it. She follows a certain process to make the miniature art, which helps keep the work streamlined and efficient.

“Most of the time, we have to start working on the basement first, the foundation. Then, we will go on to make the structure of the building like the walls, the ground, the roof – stuff like that. You know, we have dirt and dust on the ground, we have stains on the wall; so all these things are a crucial element to make the scenario more realistic,” she says.

It’s believed that miniature art dates back to the 16th century, when the genre first became popular. Artists back then started to create paintings and sculptures at a smaller size and reduced scale. Nowadays, the art form has become more mainstream, and there are even annual shows held around the world for artists to showcase their work.

Some artists create small paintings or engravings, but Pui focuses on sculptures and scenery. She says the art allows her to reminisce on her childhood and keep her heritage alive. The world is constantly changing, but art makes it possible to preserve memories for a lifetime.

8 Behaviors That Unmask Abusive People (and how to avoid the trap)

He’s your prince charming, or she’s your baby doll, yet you don’t know someone until you’ve been with them for a while. The “honeymoon” phase of any relationship brings out the best in everyone. However, abusive people often hide behind a façade and can make you think they’re the ones you’ve been waiting for your whole life.

How do you go from being so in love and wanting to spend every waking moment together to abuse one another physically and verbally? For some, it’s an altercation or disagreement over a simple matter that brings out the inner monster. However, others watch things change and spiral out of control over time.

These Eight Negative Behaviors Reveal Abusive People

Women are predominantly the victims of abuse, but this is not always the case. According to a study conducted by Mankind Initiative, one in four women will be victims, and one in six men. It’s easy to see that this is a very prevalent issue for men too. Sadly, it’s not easy to spot an abuser, as they look like everyday people.

The real issue is that by the time you spot abusive people, they’ve already entangled you into their web, and you’re doing their bidding. Here are some ways that you can help to spot abusers and save yourself the heartache.

1. Abusive People Are Irritable and Moody

abusive peopleIt’s hard to gauge their mood because one minute they love you, and the next, you’re the scum of the earth. They blame you whenever things go wrong, and it seems you’re the cause of much drama. They need a scapegoat so that they can rid their guilt.

Someone who is an abuser will do things to hurt you physically and emotionally, and they will apologize for their misdeed later. A genuine relationship is where you tell each other how important you are to one another each day.

If someone is in love with you, they will retain those feelings no matter what happens. When someone picks and chooses the days they have feelings, it’s toxic. You don’t have to walk on eggshells with anyone, so you must love yourself enough to get out.

2. They Have Extreme Jealousy

A little bit of jealousy in a relationship is a good thing. You want your spouse to be eager to fight for you and don’t want anyone else to flirt. However, extreme jealousy takes things to a whole other level.

According to Psychology Today, extreme jealousy is morbid and pathological. It believes that you have possession over a person. Berit Brogaard D.M.Sci., Ph.D. explains in this article that it’s an irrational emotion and comes with mental health concerns.

Someone who is pathologically jealous is dangerous. They will do anything in their power to keep someone from having their partner, even murder. The core of this issue is typically over conceivable sexual unfaithfulness, but it’s usually the one pointing the finger that has the problem.

3. Abusive People Use Gaslighting Tactics

Gaslighting tactics are one of the most preferred methods to use for an emotional abuser. These tricks allow you to mess with someone’s mind, and it’s so subtle they don’t recognize what’s happening. The abusive person can make you doubt yourself, your actions, and even things you’ve said.

Since they can mess up your reality and cause you to believe an alternative version of any issue, they’re dangerous. Eventually, you will stop trusting your judgment and may even think you’re losing your mind. Sadly, they camouflage themselves as a do-gooder, but their false help is going to send you over the edge.

4. An Abusive Person Will Demand You Check In

You go to visit your parents. You’re enjoying a nice dinner with your folks when your phone rings. It’s your spouse; they’re angry because you didn’t check in to let them know you arrived. It’s only been an hour since you left the house, but already the calls are starting to flood in.

Throughout the evening, you can’t enjoy yourself. The calls and texts come every 15 minutes or so. They want to keep tabs on you, even at one point wanting to talk to your mother to verify that you’re with her. They don’t trust you, and making you check in constantly is a way to control you.

While it’s acceptable to tell your partner you’ve arrived safely, it’s never okay for them to control the evening worrying about your whereabouts. This person doesn’t trust you, and it’s not your issue; it’s theirs.

thankful for a new day5. Their Thinking Is All or Nothing

Someone who thinks in terms of right or wrong misses the small nuances in life. Have you ever heard the saying that it’s their way or the highway? They can’t fathom that someone else might have the answer or an opinion on a matter.

This person likes to control things, and if you challenge them with your views, things can get nasty. This person probably believes that seeing anything in shades of gray is only making excuses. Though this individual appears to live by a high moral compass, it’s only an act.

6. They Use Their Affection as A Weapon

When you don’t behave or do what abusive people want, they will likely withhold affection. They like to punish their victims, and the easiest way to accomplish this is by withholding intimacy and affection. The intimate matters in a relationship should never be used against one another.

Sure, there are times when one party doesn’t feel like romance, but this type of withholding is different. If you don’t do what they want, they will stop speaking, won’t hug you, refuse to say, “I love you,” and might even sleep on the couch. It’s a way of control that you don’t have to subject yourself to.

7. Abusive People Like to Pick Fights

Abusers are particularly good at starting an argument with you for no good reason. They don’t care who wins or loses the fight; they want to provoke you to anger. You may find that you tiptoe around them because you don’t want to start an argument.

If you must live in fear, then you’re not living. Consequently, in these situations, you will likely end up apologizing to settle the issue. In most cases, you have no reason to be sorry.

8. They Love to Humiliate You

Verbal abuse is not okay. Sadly, someone who is abusive physically and emotionally often starts with verbal slams. They may say things in jest, trying to play it off as a joke, but it’s not funny if they’re saying something to hurt or discredit you.

These comments may be in public when others are watching, or they may be behind closed doors. It’s easy to see they don’t respect you, and they think of you as inferior to themselves. Sadly, even if you get upset, ask them to stop, or threaten to leave, most won’t stop.

Seven Things You Can Do If You’re a Victim of Abuse

If you didn’t see the warning signs, and now you’re in a horrible situation, you do have a few things you can do. Many times, folks in these situations feel helpless and don’t know which way to turn. Here are some things you can do to get help.

  1.  Leave! Even if it means that you take only the clothes on your back, it’s better than staying in an abusive situation.
  2.  Confront the abuser and ask them to get counseling and help, or you’re leaving.
  3.  Most cities across this country have some protection set up for those in domestic violence situations. By calling 1-800-799-SAFE, an advocate can help you get to safety. They’re open 24 hours a day and seven days a week for your protection.
  4.  Ask a loved one or friend to help you get out. You may need to do this when the other person is at work or away for a few hours.
  5. Call the local police department for help. Make a report of any abuse that leaves marks on you. If they threaten to kill or hurt you, then make sure it’s down in a statement.
  6. Document everything! Should you ever need to go to court, having pictures and statements from events will go well in your favor?
  7. File a Civil Protection Order against them. Most states have free legal services that will help you to file a CPO against someone who hurt you. This paper will allow an officer to arrest them if they come within five hundred feet of you.

When dealing with abusive people, you always must be two steps ahead. The best way to prevent a situation like this is to be proactive in unmasking behaviors that make you uncomfortable.

If you watch closely, abusive people will mess up. Before you start exchanging keys to your home or asking them to get married, you need to get to know someone. Long engagements are often favorable as it gives your special someone a chance to show their true colors.

According to National Statistics, every minute across this country, 20 people are abused by someone they love. The numbers are too high to ignore, and if you need help, there are resources available.
