The world’s first hydrofoil bike allows you to cycle on water, giving you a workout and great views simultaneously! Called the Manta5 bike, it was created by Guy Howard-Willis in New Zealand. Instead of being cooped up in your home or a sweaty gym, you can take this bike for a spin on the ocean. You can surf waves with it, enjoy a sunrise workout on a lake, and explore new waterways usually restricted to gas-powered engines.

“I always thought that the bike would be interesting. I thought it would be popular, I had no idea it’s gonna be like this. People never imagined that you could ever cycle on water quite like this,” founder and developer Guy Howard-Willis said.

The exciting invention offers so many benefits to those who enjoy cycling. First off, the hydrofoil bike eliminates the hazards and annoyances of cycling on busy roadways. You have much more room on the open water, which allows for a better experience. Plus, the all-electric bike doesn’t pollute the environment, so you can feel good about riding it. The bike fits in the back of most vehicles, offering easy transport to your favorite spot.

He said this:

“I had this idea in my head of cycling, cycling on water. I just really enjoy cycling, I love swimming, so the two things go together as far as I’m concerned. But, how can you simulate the cycling experience, but on water? The Manta5 Hydrofoil Bike is an idea I had for ages.”

After Guy got the idea for the hydrofoil bike, he had quite a mountain to climb getting it to the market. Most people know how to ride a normal bike – you push the pedals, turn a chain, and move forward. However, replicating that experience on water would require a few upgrades. The idea captivated many people, but now came the hard work of transforming the thought into reality.

Creating the world’s first Hydrofoil Bike

 The first step of the process involved designing the bike to ensure it remained stable in the water. You pedal to gain momentum on a normal bike and keep your body balanced to avoid tipping over. In the water, however, you’d easily fall because the bike wouldn’t stay afloat. So, to combat this problem, the Hydrofoil Bike has foils on the back and front, which create stability over water.

“So, we would set up this kind of contraption; you couldn’t really call it a bike, but it had foils on the front and the back, and handlebars and the seat, and basically that was it. And the next thing was, could you propel yourself?” Guy said.

It took some trial and error, but they eventually created a propeller that worked well. The next step was figuring out how a rider could get back on the bike if they fell off. So, the company rented out a pool late at night when it was empty to run some tests.

“I would ride that bike in the pool, and I’d drive home, like 100km for me to drive home, my hands would be white, and it would be freezing cold, but it was really an exciting time,” Guy reminisced. “The part where it really got exciting was when we applied for a design award, and we won a gold award for concept. It was on national TV, on the news, actually.”

It’s always rewarding to see your hard work and revolutionary ideas gain traction. The Hydrofoil Bike went viral, and the company started getting emails from people across the globe. They started getting thousands of messages about the product. After all, people had never seen a bike that could pedal on the water before!

An exciting future lies ahead for the Hydrofoil Bike.

 While it took immense effort and dedication to create the finished product, Guy wouldn’t change it for the world. He’s gifted the world with a new invention that has already brought joy to many people. It inspires him to have developed a product that breathes new life into the cycling industry. Of course, he felt like giving up many times throughout the process, but the little breakthroughs along the way kept him going.

“Perseverance, I think, counts for a lot of things. Not giving up that counts for a lot of things. Being positive and thinking this is going to work counts for a lot too,” Guy says.

“The most rewarding part of creating this bike is actually seeing people use it. The first 30 bikes we sold were in New Zealand. We just had a customer experience day on Tarawera Lake, and one of the fellows rode an hour across the lake to come and meet the group. And to see these bikes being ridden on the lake all together, for me personally, that is really rewarding.”

When they first designed the bike, it only came in a manual model. This worked well for people with a high fitness level but wasn’t accessible to the general population. So, to reach more customers, the company decided to equip the hydrofoil bike with an electric motor. Once they did that, it opened up the market to a wide variety of customers. Guy said 12-year-olds to older adults like him can now ride them!

For now, the bikes are purely recreational, but Guy has dreams of taking it all the way to the Olympics someday. They’re working on developing a manual model capable of racing to make it more competitive. He says to “watch out for that one” in the future. Rescued Pit Bull Gets His Own Adorable Kitten

A rescued pit bull named Bubba got his very own rescue animal, a pet kitten named Rue. Not many pets get to have a pet for themselves, but Bubba’s owner Becca knew he could handle it. By looking at it on social media, the two have a close bond, enjoying cuddling and playing together.

Despite the pitbulls’ aggressive reputation, they’re actually some of the most loving, friendly dogs you’ll come across. That’s been Becca’s experience with them as well because Bubba’s always looked out for his little sister.

“Like I knew he would be okay with her,” Becca says. “I knew he would never be aggressive with her; she was the size of my palm.”

Dogs have keen intuition and can sense when a smaller baby or animal is nearby. They act more gentle and protective around these fragile creatures as their instincts take over. Many people have preconceived notions about a rescued pit bull, as they often come from traumatic backgrounds. However, with a loving home and the right training, pit bulls will easily come out of their shell.

Becca says that Bubba’s been a blessing to have around, as he’s a very calm, laid-back dog. He’s about to turn eleven in December, while February marks Rue’s fifth birthday. Becca rescued Bubba when he was just three months old during her sophomore year of college. She can’t imagine her life without him now.

The rescued pit bull got his very own pet kitten, Rue.

Here’s how she describes him on her website: “Bubba has been the most mellow guy since the day I got him. He may be the best dog you’d ever meet. He’s grown up with puppies, kitties, big dogs, small dogs, cats, etc., so he’s the best role model to the little guys. He’s lived with 3 puppies throughout his life (roommates at the time), so he is used to playing gentle and teaching the little guys the ropes. He is the exact same with Rue and always has been!”

She rescued Rue as well, from all the way across the country in Brooklyn, New York. She wanted a kitten for the rescued pitbull because she thought a full-grown cat might have a harder time adjusting. It may seem counterintuitive since kittens are so small, but they’re not set in their ways like cats. If the kitten grows up with a big dog from the start, it won’t seem unfamiliar.

Here’s Rue’s story, also from the website:

“Rue is also the biggest (or littlest) snuggle bunny. When I first brought her home, she was so incredibly tiny; it was like having an infant around. You couldn’t take your eyes off of her, so it was helpful that Bubba was around to help out. If I’d walk away somewhere, he’d always follow me (he’s always been a mama’s boy).

“So when we added itty bitty Rue to the family, I would say, “go watch your sister,” and he would turn around and go watch where she was. If Rue weren’t snuggled close with bubba (99% of the time she was), she’d come and lay on my chest because the sound of my heartbeat reminded her of her birth mama. Kittens are the best.

“She follows bubba around everywhere and never grew out of her crazy toddler stage. She runs around like a nut, hops like a bunny, and is clumsy. She’s also incredibly affectionate. She gives so many kisses. It’s amazing. She’s always purring and making biscuits. I don’t know how I got so lucky with two perfect munchkins.”
If you’re not familiar with the term, “making biscuits” refers to the kneading motion cats make with their front paws. They do this when they feel comfortable with you and as a sign of affection. It’s quite adorable to watch, and it’s like getting a free massage from your kitten!

Becca’s very blessed to have her two furballs in her life. She says they’re everything to her and remain the priority in her life. For anyone considering fostering or adopting, she says to go for it! Hopefully, you’ll get just as lucky as she did in the pet department.

Sadly, many pit bulls end up in shelters or on the streets because they get a bad rap. However, a rescued pit bull can make a wonderful pet, just like any other dog! It all depends on the love and attention you give your pet.

With that said, here are a few little-known facts about this beloved dog:

  1. Despite what most people think, the pit bull isn’t an actual dog breed. The pit bull refers to many breeds, such as the American Staffordshire terrier, the Staffordshire bull terrier, and other mixed breeds.
  2. In the 20th century, people referred to pit bulls as “nanny dogs.” Parents used to leave their children with pit bulls because they knew these dogs would keep a watchful eye on them. So, if someone says pit bulls are dangerous, please share this fact with them!
  3. When they first came into existence, pit bulls helped herd livestock and made wonderful family pets. They don’t do much herding anymore, but millions still call them family.
  4. Pit bulls have a friendly disposition, so breeders decided not to use them as guard dogs.
  5. Rescued pit bulls actually don’t have aggression in their DNA. In temperance tests, Pit Bulls scored second, behind only the beloved Golden Retriever. The least tolerant dog may surprise you – it was the Chihuahua, of all breeds!
  6. In 1993, Wheela the pitbull won the Ken-L-Ration Dog Hero of the Year award. When a dam broke in the Tijuana River, she came to the rescue of dozens of people and animals. In three months, Wheela rescued 30 people, 29 dogs, 13 horses, and one cat. In addition to saving lives, she also brought food to stranded animals and led rescue teams to the horses.

The Netherland Dwarf bunny’s ancestry includes the Polish and Hermelin rabbit breeds, among others. The Polish rabbit likely originated in England, and the Hermelin came from Germany. Breeders in Holland started breeding the tiny white rabbits with small and large wild rabbits to create more diverse colors. They developed a breed standard in 1940, but WWII halted their work.

“It was truly love at first sight when we all saw Minuit,” his owner Catherine Rossi said. “On the spot, our daughter named him Minuit, which in French means ‘midnight.’”

The Netherland Dwarf rabbit is now three years old and was only eight weeks when the family adopted him. On August 3, 2017, they drove three hours out of town to a shelter to meet him.

“A year later, in December 2018, our daughter asked if we could enter Minuit in a dress-up contest, which required us to enter him with an Instagram account, which none of us had,” Catherine said. “It was then when we realized that Minuit didn’t mind getting dressed up, and we thought he would pose in front of the camera.”

This Sweet Bull Terrier Brightens Everyone’s Day

Sparky is a handsome, smart boy who loves dressing up in costumes. On his social media, you’ll see him sporting a unicorn outfit, watermelon “hat,” and even a Santa costume. It looks like he can pull off almost any color or style, so he got lucky in that department.

The bull terrier is also very loving and caring – he enjoys a good belly rub or cuddles on his dads’ laps. When his dads saw him at a breeder’s house five years ago, it sealed the deal for them. The dads said: “The first time we saw him, the emotions were indescribable. We were immediately in love. Sparky was so small and tender.”

Sparky’s definitely brought so much love into his parents’ lives, and they’re very grateful. Much of the time, the bull terrier is a well-mannered, good boy. However, he does have one stubborn (yet hilarious) quirk about him. He’s just a bit lazy, especially when he’s out on walks or inside stores.

The dads often have to coax him around on the leash because he refuses to walk! He even crawls around the house sometimes when his parents are watching, just for the fun of it. He seems to get a kick out of it the whole time because his tail never stops wagging.

His parents seem to think he does this for attention, and not actually because he’s lazy. Apparently, he’s been doing this since he was a one-year-old pup. When they go into stores, kids and adults alike look at him with bewilderment, sometimes laughing at the silly dog. You can tell he’s amused, too, because he smiles and wags his tail whenever he has an audience!

This makes his parents happy as well to know that others benefit from their little bull terrier.

Other awesome things about having Sparky around

The dads said that ever since quarantine started, they’ve had to spend a lot more time at home. They have had to improvise their workouts and find ways to stay in shape indoors. The transition to lockdown wasn’t easy, but Sparky helped make it a little more bearable. He helps them both stay motivated and sane during that tough time.

For example, whenever they do push-ups, he’s right there to offer kisses and emotional support. Sometimes, though, he wants to play during their workouts, but they don’t mind the distraction. Sparky being there keeps their mindset positive and makes the situation easier to handle.

They give him tons of love and attention in return for his cuddles and kisses. Sparky seems to enjoy being at home with his parents and getting to spend more time with them. Alessio and Silvio have had a harder time adjusting due to social distancing measures, but Sparky makes things better. They can still cuddle and get close with him, even if they can’t see friends and family as often.

He’s been such a light in their lives and brings so much love into their home and hearts every day. Sparky is probably the sweetest bull terrier you’ll ever see, and we can’t get enough of him!

His parents have been transformed by having this cute pup in their lives. They treat him like a king, and he shows his gratitude by giving them, unconditional love. Whether he’s at home or traveling the world, Sparky’s happy as long as his parents are by his side.

“From the moment Sparky entered our lives, he certainly brought so many positive things. Just coming home from work, you can see him at the front gate waiting, so content, full of joy,” his dad says. “He likes going on long walks. When we’re going on vacation, we’re always taking him with us, and it’s really beautiful.”

Final thoughts on the bull terrier that makes everyone’s life a little happier

From the looks of it on social media, it does seem like the bull terrier does everything with his parents. Sparky’s a pretty lucky dude to have dads that take him on so many adventures. He’s an amazing fur child, though, so he deserves it. It seems he’s pretty popular with fans as well, having almost two million followers on TikTok.

His dads consider Sparky their “soul dog” because it seems like he completes the picture. Their lives seem much more full now that they have the bull terrier to keep them company. According to the American Kennel Club(AKC), bull terriers are very affectionate, playful dogs. They’re also high-energy, mischievous dogs and are very protective of their owners.

Being a playful, charming dog may explain why Sparky likes to act up in public sometimes. Bull terriers are also open to strangers, so what better way to break the ice than to make them laugh? Overall, their little bull terrier is such a joy to have around, and they couldn’t imagine life without him now.
