10 Simple And Easy Things You Can Do To Make Your Home Look Beautiful

Making a home beautiful is every homeowner’s dream and there are simple and easy things that most anyone can do to improve and beautify their home. With the hundreds of creative ideas found in the area of design, there is no shortage as to what can be done to make your abode more beautiful.

That’s especially true when you employ professionals such as a custom home builder.

However, when aiming to sell your home or make a lasting impression, enlisting the help of a real estate staging company can elevate your home’s appeal to new heights. Staging OC professionals specialize in creating inviting spaces that resonate with potential buyers, showcasing the true potential of your property.

By utilizing expert staging techniques, such as strategically arranging furniture and incorporating tasteful decor, you can highlight your home’s best features and create an emotional connection with prospective buyers. With their creative touch, your abode will shine brightly, making it irresistible to anyone who steps through the door.

For those considering a quicker and more straightforward path to move on to the next adventure, there’s another option that doesn’t involve staging or months of waiting for the right buyer to come along—selling your home directly for cash. With services like Sell My House Fast Group, homeowners can avoid the hassle of traditional listings and sell efficiently, ensuring a smooth and fast transition to their next chapter.

Choosing to sell your house cash means bypassing the traditional real estate process and connecting with buyers who are ready to purchase without contingencies or delays. This is an especially attractive choice for homeowners who are looking to avoid the cost and effort of repairs, upgrades, or staging altogether. It’s a great way to simplify the selling process while still ensuring you receive a fair offer for your beloved property.

It’s fairly easy to narrow down the many ideas out there to ten simple and practical things that are adaptable to most any situation in which decorating and organizing a household are involved. Here are the ten that can give you a jump start on making your home a more inviting and beautiful place.

Easy Things You Can Do To Make Your Home Look Beautiful

positive energy plants

1. Greenery and Flowers

Depending on the time of year, greenery and flowers, whether real or faux, can be placed in any room of a home to add beauty, color and texture. If you have a flower or herb garden in your backyard, or have found a local grocery or craft store that carries an array of real and faux flowers and plants, choose some and bring them inside where they can add the right touch to a specific area. Place them in clear glass jars, upscale vases, twine covered pots or galvanized steel containers and proceed to arrange them on tabletops, shelves, niches or other spots in kitchen, dining and living areas.

2. Wreaths for all Seasons

Wreaths are another item that can dress up the front entrance of a house, or any of its interior rooms. They can be used on a seasonal basis and rotated to reflect changes. A standard grapevine wreath form can be easily transformed from spring to summer, and fall to winter. Add an initial, monogram, or a welcome sign to the wreath and alter it through seasonal flowers, foliage, ribbons and other embellishments that coordinate with the time of year, environment, house style or region of the country. Once again, faux flowers or plants can be used.

3. Incorporating Color

If you have incorporated pops of color through flowers and plants, you can do the same thing through paint or colorful tape on walls or other focal points in a room. If all walls are neutral or white, add a splash of your favorite color that blends in with the remaining walls and furnishings. If you don’t want to integrate color through painting or taping a wall, use furniture and accessories in colors that highlight the room’s architecture. A coastal blue or a crisp gray side table, buffet or sofa table, or even pillows in bright prints or solids, can change the look of a room.

Untamed Creatures Hara Lessandra suggests pairing bold animal-themed décor, like a zebra-patterned chair, with neutral tones to create a balanced yet dynamic look.

4. Hand-lettered Signs, Initials, Printables and Photographs

Use stencils to create a home DIY hand lettered sign. There are any number of stencils, even free ones, in both script and print that can be laid out, traced on backing, colored in and framed to create a picture and inspirational effect on a mantel, wall or shelf. Take your favorite saying, poem or quote and put it almost anywhere.

The same is true of metal or wooden initials that can be used individually or in groups to make a declaration of sorts. You’ve seen the EAT letters often used in kitchen seating areas, and there are many others that send a short, but sweet message. Better yet, come up with your own ideas for wording.

Printables are another upcoming design element, many of which are free, and can be easily printed, framed and placed in different spaces.

Don’t forget those family photographs that have been packed away for years or left out in the open to gather dust. Create photo groupings on a wall or shelf. Use uniform sized whimsical frames of the same color and group them so they create a point of focus in the room or space. Rotate the pictures on a monthly basis to highlight family members and important life events.

5. Area Rugs

An area rug can change the face of a room. It can bring texture, depth, warmth and beauty to an area. An area rung also has a framing or outlining effect that can define and anchor a space. Again, color is important, as you want it to enhance furnishings and accessories with coordinating colors to enrich what is already in the room.

6. Vignettes

Vignettes are one way of expressing your personal decorating taste and style as well as utilizing a number of items in one area, and they are fairly simple to pull together. A vignette represents a grouping or setting of items usually centered around a theme. The items are placed on flat surface areas where they can bring a polished and finished look to tabletop, shelf or dresser. Vignettes become a point of interest and beauty in most any room. Most vignettes contain personal items mixed with other design elements. A good example of a vignette is a grouping of three to five items, in an odd number configuration, that are of varying heights, widths and sizes. A simple vignette would be a grouping of small and large candles displayed on a tray and placed on a small table or ottoman.

Creating a stylish vignette on a vanity can enhance its functionality and visual appeal, transforming it into a focal point in your bathroom or dressing area. A carefully curated vignette on a vanity might include a mix of elegant items such as a decorative jewelry box, a chic tray holding your favorite perfumes, and a charming picture frame. A well-designed vanity vignette not only organizes your essentials but also reflects your personal style. The wall hung timber vanity, with its sleek lines and natural warmth, serves as an excellent backdrop for showcasing your carefully chosen items. A well-designed vanity vignette not only organizes your essentials but also reflects your personal style.

7. Decluttering and Eliminating

There are other aspects to making a home look beautiful besides adorning it and if you truly want to organize your home, and enhance its appearance, decluttering it as well as eliminating extraneous items can definitely add to the enjoyment of various spaces. When there are leftover packing boxes, files, paper trash and boxes of mementos sitting around taking up space, it’s time to take a look at the big picture and store the items, recycle them, or find a storage area in your house for it all.

Eliminating a surplus of decorative items or furnishings in any room can open it up and give it a chance to breathe and stand on its own. Many areas in a house need purging of plain old stuff that may be nice but just needs to go, or be transferred to another area, or stored for future use.

8. Organization Center

Organize your home with a command center in the kitchen or pantry area that presents the big picture of the goings-on in your house. You can use an erasable and magnetized white board or do a home DIY model out of chicken wire or wood that has a large calendar insert for various activities. Make room for other items that can be taped or attached. The calendar and areas around it should allow enough space to jot down important duties, grocery lists, invitations, and other daily tasks.

9. Repurposing

Repurposing is not only saving you money, but you are taking items of value, which you already own, and transforming or reassigning them to other uses. You’re promoting sustainability and environmental standards, plus adding to the beauty of your house. One example of repurposing is the reuse of those tea cups from grandma that are no longer being used. Simply get some potting soil, fill the cups to the right level and add succulent plants to the cups. You can beautify an over the sink area with a row of teacups.

10. Rearranging

Rearranging living room or dining room furniture pieces and accessories is one more way to add space to an area, do away with a closed in and cluttered look and shine a new light on what you already own. Visualize the space, make up your own arrangement possibilities with paper cutouts, or go online and find one of the many free rearranging templates that help you define your spaces and apply the right configurations for the areas that are being changed. Your spaces can become more organized, usable and a whole lot more attractive, while you can also add things like sliding doors from naturfonster  to make the rooms look more elegant.

When it comes to making a home look more beautiful, the ideas are endless. Some focus on decorating, while others involve organizing and reconfiguring spaces to adapt to your lifestyle. However, enhancing your home’s aesthetics should also include ensuring that the roof is in top shape. Investing in quality roofing not only improves curb appeal but also protects your home from the elements. For any roofing needs, reaching out to experienced Roofers Akron can help you achieve both beauty and functionality in your home renovation projects.

5. “To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.” – C.S. Lewis

This hole in my heart is in the shape of you and no-one else can fit it. Why would I want them to?” – Jeanette Winterson

12 Motivational Quotes to Help you Overcome Disappointment in Life

One of the unavoidable parts of growing up is learning to deal with disappointment. We all have hopes, dreams, and goals we set for ourselves, some of which don’t come true. The realization that we’re not going to get what we want or need is an awful feeling.

Disappointment can be anything from a minor annoyance to a soul-crushing sadness. At its worst, it can take days, weeks, or even longer to recover from. But there’s good news. Disappointment is part of the human condition, and many wise people have grappled with it over the centuries.

Their wisdom and empathy can help us deal with disappointment in our own lives, as these 12 inspirational quotes can attest:

Disappointment is the nurse of wisdom.” – Sir Bayle Roche

This quote lets us know that while disappointment can be painful, there’s also an upside. Mistakes and setbacks can give us valuable lessons about how life works. If you meet a person full of wisdom, that person has almost certainly dealt with disappointments that helped them develop deep wisdom.

“One’s best success comes after their greatest disappointments.” – Henry Ward Beecher

While it’s natural to look on the downside after a setback, this quote reminds us that most successful people have first hard to reckon with some hard knocks in life. The disappointments of today can transform into the successes of tomorrow.

motivational quotes

“If I am to meet with a disappointment, the sooner I know it, the more of life I shall have to wear it off.” – Thomas Jefferson

The words of Jefferson give us a way to frame our unhappiness. Sometimes, it’s best to realistically deal with a situation so that we have more time to move on and live our best lives going forward. In a lot of ways, it’s better to be disappointed and then be able to move on than to linger in uncertainty.

“We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment.” – Jim Rohn

This quote can put the feeling of being disappointed in perspective. After all, the only surefire way to never feel disappointed is to never hope, never make ambitious plans, never have goals and dreams. By living and striving, sometimes disappointment is the price we pay. But it’s worth it for the joy and success we encounter.

“Disappointment is really just a term for our refusal to look on the bright side.” – Richelle E. Goodrich

This quote points out that the way we often look at a situation isn’t the only way to see things. While we may focus on what we didn’t get or don’t have, we might miss out on the positives of a disappointing outcome. When we feel disappointment, it’s possible we can snap ourselves out of it by considering the good in our lives.

“Disappointment is just the action of your brain readjusting itself to reality after discovering things are not the way you thought they were.” – Brad Warner

Some people prefer a pragmatic approach to dealing with disappointment. This quote is perfect for that type of approach, pointing out that sometimes disappointment can be informative. In being disappointed, we might simply realize that our world isn’t quite what we had thought, and now we’re more knowledgeable.

“The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire, the size of your dream, and how you handle disappointment along the way.” – Robert Kiyosaki

If you’re a goal-oriented person, this quote can remind you that it’s important to channel your frustration, anger, and sadness into determination. Dealing effectively with disappointments while keeping your focus on your dreams and goals can lead you to success.

“Most things disappoint till you look deeper.” – Graham Greene

This introspective quote points out that what lies on the surface isn’t always what’s most important. If you’re feeling disappointed, perhaps you can inspire yourself by thinking more deeply about your situation. It may be that what first seemed like a setback was actually a new opportunity.

“Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” – Marilyn Monroe

When your life seems bleak, it’s good to remember that the end of something is the beginning of a new thing. And it’s possible, even probable, that what comes after is even better than what you may have lost.

“Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” – Buddha

Sometimes it’s almost impossible not to be dragged down by frustration and anger. This quote reminds us that those feelings only damage us. Still, they don’t fix anything or have a positive impact on our lives. Letting go of disappointments isn’t only a good idea, it’s also healthy for us.

“Disappointment to a noble soul is what cold water is to burning metal; it strengthens, tempers, intensifies, but never destroys it.” – Eliza Tabor

This quote reminds us that we’re stronger than we may think and feel we are at times. We can use our feelings of discouragement and sadness to rededicate ourselves. If we never want to feel this way again, we can resolve to do everything in our power not to let it happen.

“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

These beautiful words remind us that, in the end, our capacity to keep hoping and dreaming give our lives meaning. Setbacks will occur along the way, but if we keep striving for a better future, we can find happiness and success.

Even the most dedicated fitness fanatics can get into a rut from time to time. Life happens. An injury might be avoidable, but an illness is still possible. Physicians and other health professionals are recognizing that exercise is an important part of a holistic approach to managing mental health issues, including depression (Web M.D.), anxiety (Anxiety and Depression Association of America), and ADHD (ADHD Center). Researchers, physicians, and educators are advocating for more exercise during school hours to enhance student learning. John Ratey, MD, says it best: you can “optimize your life” through exercise.

While motivational quotes are inspiring, the reality of life can be daunting. It can be difficult to schedule in the most important part of your day, stick to a workout routine, or return to a previously-established routine. As James Clear reiterates, the research has shown that it actually takes an average of 66 days to form a new habit.

There are numerous variables involved in changing habits, but it helps to know that it takes time. Fitness motivational quotes are inspiring and knowledge is power. The right combination of information and inspiration can help you stay motivated even through the most challenging circumstances.

Are you feeling educated and inspired to exercise? Give up the excuses and get out the door!

How I Learned To Turn Disappointment In To Opportunities (And It Leads To Success)

Everyone has to deal with disappointment in life. No matter how hard we try, there will be times when we do not meet our goals. Rather than letting disappointment make us bitter, it is better to take it as a learning experience.

I’ve come to this realization the hard way, turning to online explorations in gaming and esports as a way to channel my frustrations into something productive amid financial setbacks. I applied for a job I truly wanted and was not called back after my interview, even after discovering how Esports News reviews the best betting sites not on Gamstop, which got me thinking about unconventional paths to boost income while pursuing passions. I had already mapped out the great changes this job would have made in my life, both personally and financially. After I received the disappointing news, I was left in a tailspin. I had trouble concentrating at work and my productivity went down. I couldn’t stop thinking about what I perceived as my failure, yet those digital discoveries helped reframe my approach to risks and rewards in everyday pursuits. Luckily, I was able to learn from my experience of disappointment. I will share the process I went through as I tried to rebuild my life and my self-image.

How I Learned to Turn Disappointment into an Opportunity to Succeed

1. Only I Can Define My Own “Success”

Rather than seeing every mistake as a failure, learn to see them as steps on a path. “Success” doesn’t have to mean achieving all of your dreams. Little steps on the path toward a better life will make you successful in the end. Even though I did not get the job I wanted, I gained valuable interviewing skills, and I took the opportunity to polish my resume.

2. Taking Responsibility for Your Disappointment

Rather than blaming others for my disappointment, I took it upon myself to understand why I hadn’t succeeded. Being honest with myself about the problems I had in the interview helped me to understand what to change the next time.

3. It’s Not Always Personal

Moving on from a disappointment also means letting go of the notion that the world is hostile toward you. My job interview might have been great, but perhaps the employer was promoting someone from within the company. Even if my interview was perfect, someone else’s might have been slightly better.

4. Feeling My Emotions

However you feel when you are trying to deal with disappointment, give yourself permission to feel those emotions. Clamming up and going on as if everything is fine will only cause your emotions to fester over time. It’s better to get them out in a healthy way, like journaling or talking with a trusted friend. I was able to get my feelings out through a good cry with my best friend. She reminded me of all of my great qualities and let me know that my failure on the job front didn’t make me a failure as a person.

disappointment

5. Manage Expectations to Minimize Disappointment

If you are continually feeling disappointed, it’s worthwhile to take a look at your expectations. Adjusting them might give you a better perspective on life. For example, I stopped applying for jobs that were too far removed from the job I currently have.

6. Look at the Big Picture

As my friend reminded me, just because I failed at a job interview doesn’t make me a bad person. It helped me when she told me to remember all of the positive things I had accomplished. Even though I was looking for a new job, I had plenty of successes at my old job. Not getting the job wasn’t a reflection on me as a person.

7. Leaving Space for Opportunity

Sometimes when we are disappointed, we are actually opening a door to a better situation later on. I didn’t get the job I wanted, but in a few months’ time, I interviewed for an even better job, which probably recruits by utilizing services like active sourcing, and was accepted. If I had gotten the first job, I never would have had the great experiences I’ve had at my current job. I have truly grown as a person and as a professional and it’s only been a year since I started work.

Final Thoughts on Disappointment in Life

While being disappointed is a tough situation, it’s possible to get through it with these seven steps. When you have a difficult experience, step back from it and analyze the situation. Give yourself permission to feel your feelings and move past any grief you might experience. Look at all of the positive things you have accomplished in your life.

Overall, don’t let failure stop you from living a full life. Truly strong people are persistent and will charge on despite setbacks.

Are You Having Doubts About Your Relationship? Ask Yourself These Questions First…

When it comes to love and relationships, doubts will almost always present themselves in some way. Whether you’re a hopeless romantic or a more practical partner, you may find yourself questioning your relationship. Those questions might make you wonder whether you want to spend the rest of your life with this person. Don’t feel guilty. It is completely normal to feel these doubts. They may or may not be well-founded. You may be wondering how you can tell the difference between real doubt, self doubt, and insecurity.

Your doubt may be based on very present feelings or situations. Self doubt can also play a role and cause feelings that might be unfounded. Attachment anxiety is a main cause of this doubt according to many psychologists. This is nothing to be ashamed of. Feeling insecure is part of the human condition. However, you may want to reflect on a few key questions. It is paramount to answer these as honestly as possible. Your relationships affect every aspect of your life.

Feeling stability in your partnership will help you feel stable in other areas of living. Additionally, feeling doubts about your significant other will show. If your relationship is meant to be, you want to be as loving and caring as possible. Doubt may hinder that. You’ll need to figure out why, work on it, or move on.

Thoughts to Consider When Relationship Doubts Arise

The importance of self-examination cannot be understated. It can be difficult and upsetting, but try to think through your doubts. Write them out on a piece of paper. Look at your thoughts logically to figure out what they really mean. There are many factors that affect our relationships and stability. Asking yourself these questions might make your situation easier.

Do You Have a Hard Time Trusting Them?

If you find it hard to trust your lover in general ways such as money management, safety, and communication, it may be time to talk through these doubts or move on. However, feeling insecure may be the root cause of your doubts. Past experiences can effectively blur your vision when it comes to your love life. One bad relationship can cast its shadow over all future partnerships if you allow it to. Have you been cheated on? If so, you may find it difficult to trust someone again.

Love is a vulnerable state to be in. Allowing yourself to openly trust can be very difficult if you have been betrayed in the past. These feelings are categorized under self doubt. Don’t fret, because there are many ways to recover from being cheated on.

Are You Communicating Enough?

One major cause of distrust is lack of effective communication. Your partner is not a mind reader, and neither are you. No matter which side is to blame, communication must be honest and constant to create a solid basis for your relationship. Willingness to communicate is also essential. Talking through tough issues and decisions helps to make compromises easier. However, you may be dealing with a stubborn person. They might be unwilling to learn to communicate. This is never a good thing. When problems remain dormant, they will come out in an ugly fashion. If your doubt is ignored, it will only grow stronger in your subconscious mind. It may make you feel as if you’re going crazy.

Don’t worry, there are many ways to deal with a stubborn partner. Verbal communication is paramount, but other types of communication are just as important. For example, being intimate with your partner is a form of communication. This is especially true when your intimacy isn’t just sexual. It is essential to give and receive love. Doing so will help you feel more comfortable while staying open with one another.

Are Your Doubts Based on Facts or Assumptions?

Depending on the type of person you are, it may be easy for you to become too logical. When thinking through your doubts, you may imagine that you will feel this way forever. You may feel so much doubt that you begin to wonder if soulmates really do exist. These feelings are healthy to a point, but being overly cynical harms your relationship further. However, it is vital to decide whether your doubts are founded.

You can try meditating on this. Sit calmly for twenty minutes, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Practicing this will allow you to think with a clear mind and heart. Afterward, self-reflect on your problems. You may be hurting, but it’s essential to think about what makes you feel this way.

  • Did something happen?
  • Did your partner say something that made you upset?
  • Do your doubts have reasoning to back them up?
  • Are you assuming things you don’t know about your partner?

This is an easy trap to fall victim to. Assumptions can cause imaginary problems in even the best relationships. This is where communication comes in. If you’re assuming their thoughts, motives, or actions, it’s a good idea to talk this through with them. On the other hand, doubts can be the result of real statements or actions. These feelings are based on fact. When these are pervasive enough, it may be time to move on. On the flip side, you may feel better after a long conversation if assumptions were to blame.difficult times in relationships

Final Thoughts and Motivations

Nobody likes to feel the way you are feeling right now. Even people in the closest relationships can become victims. Instability hurts, especially when you are constantly worrying if the one you love is truly your soulmate. It is incredibly difficult to feel stable when you’ve been lied to, cheated on, or have a stubborn partner. Thankfully, there is a light at the end of this dark and doubtful tunnel. Self-evaluation and communication with your loved one can help tremendously. It is vital to deciphering whether your worries are based on facts or assumptions.

Hopefully, this advice will help you better understand your worries. It is meant to help you work through them with self-reflection, communication, trust, and meditation. Afterward, you will be free to continue with life as usual. Remember, doubts are not the end-all, and you are never alone in how you feel.

Science Explains Why Falling in Love Is Good For You

We have all felt the heady rush, the swooping feeling in the pit of our stomachs, and the general dizziness of falling in love. The incredible feeling, not unlike that of going on a rollercoaster for the very first time, is known to make people unreasonably happy and to put a bounce in their step far beyond their usual behavior.

In addition to all of these wonderful attributes, did you know that falling head over heels for someone is also scientifically good for you?

Falling for Someone Makes You Immune to Pain

According to a study performed by Stanford University, being in love actually reduces your pain receptors so that you only feel about 60% of physical pain that of which you otherwise would have felt 100%.

That’s a pretty significant drop in physical pain receptors and can be the result of why teenagers and young adults who are in love tend to heal faster, on average. The work required to get better and get back to your life again is almost insignificant if you are also sharing a great deal of brain with a loved one, especially a newly found loved one.

This can also be why people who are in loving monogamous relationships live longer on average and die in better condition (as opposed to long, drawn-out disease) than their unhappily matched or single friends.

Is That Cocaine I’m Feeling?

Falling in love is such a head rush that we consider it to be practically ordained by God or we call it “destiny”. What other facts could make us feel this way?

Well, it turns out, the brain can. Massive amounts of neurochemicals are released in the brain when we fall in love and the effect is a massive euphoria state, similar to that of the brain when cocaine is taken in.

Is the brain really affected the same way by falling in love as it by using cocaine? According to research performed by the University of Syracuse, it is. It really is. In fact, so many small obstacles in our daily lives are pushed out of the way and overcome as if they were nothing, that the massive success and resulting heady feeling from small achievement after small achievement can extend the feeling up to four to six days after every single encounter with your loved one.

The mass of utopian feelings created in our brain is so strong that we are often cautioned by our friends and family to NOT make any large decisions while in this state.

Can the Feeling Ever Go Away?

Yes, and it does every time, according to Gary Chapman, author of the bestselling book, The Five Love Languages. He calls these feelings of euphoria the “in love high” state which can last anywhere from two months to two years. After this, he has seen many times, the feeling wears off. In this stage, we say that “the honeymoon is over.”

Does that mean that it can be extended?

According to Dr. Chapman, it can. In his book, The Five Love Languages, he talks about how everyone has one or two primary love languages or a primary love language and a secondary one. The five love languages, as outlined are Words of Encouragement, Gift Giving and Receiving, Acts of Service, Physical Touch, and Quality Time.

By “expecting” the in love high stage to pass, we can look beyond the massive chemical attraction and build massively satisfying long-term relationships with our partners which feel as if the emotions will never die by simply learning how to speak their love language and helping them to speak ours. We fall in love every day because our love tanks are being filled every day.

What Other Things Can Extend These Good Feelings and Subsequent Good Health?

Taking a realistic approach. In fact, out of the successful long-term relationships which have been studied, only a small fraction of them believe in “happily ever after.” However, most of the divorce cases in the world result from the fairy tale mentality that all you have to do is get married and all will be well from then on out.

Lessons from Successful 20-year, 40-year, and Lifetime Marriages? Accept the fact that all relationships, just falling in love or long-term commitment, take hard work, no matter what types of relationships they are and accept the fact that all of the enormous emotional growth and internal maturity will, indeed, pay off in amazing positive results over the years. Expect it to be a continual process, not an end result.

Final Thoughts

Our emotions are, indeed, heavy tools with immense power. They create reduced stress, long-term happiness, better health, and increased longevity. However, like any tool, they must be shaped and trained over the years to adapt to each other and to life’s little changes which add up to big changes over the decades.

Rather than putting yourself first or the other person first, put the entity of the relationship first and continue that heady falling in love feeling for all eternity.

Relationship Experts Explain How To Deal With A Manipulative Partner

It is a shock to realize that you have gotten into a manipulative and controlling relationship–most relationships do not begin this way. We all have stars in our eyes, things are great, and there are lots of promises that are made in the interest of landing a desirable mate.

Once the dust has settled, you may realize that you’ve gotten involved with a manipulative partner. What now? Has your relationship become more rocky than solid? Here are some clear signs that your partner has manipulative and controlling tendencies:

Your Partner Is Dr. Jekyll And Mr./Ms. Hyde

One minute you are the recipient of such sweet treatment it’s enough to give you a toothache, and the next minute you feel like you’re dealing with the wicked witch of the West. The worst part about this up and down treatment is that it’s unpredictable; you never know what you’re going to get. This is an exhausting cycle to ride with a partner; speaking up for yourself and refusing to put up with such treatment will give you a good idea whether your relationship can weather these changes.

You Are The Victim Of Passive Aggressive Behavior

Does your partner deliberately sabotage your happiness and success? Do they display jealousy over other relationships that you have in your life? Do they attempt to control your actions, attitudes, thoughts, and even physical location? If you are the unfortunate victim of any of these situations, you have a manipulative partner. Maybe it’s time to teach that partner that you care about that there is a different, healthier way of relating to you.

Are You Stressed Out By Your Relationship?

If your partner’s behavior, antics, words and actions cause you stress and emotional pain, you are in manipulative relationship. We all make mistakes, and we all have bad days, but our partners should be the ones that we run to, not run from, as life throws its curveballs at us. If you find it easier to be away from your partner than with them, you are likely in a controlling relationship.

What Do I Do Now? How Do I Deal With This?

Regardless of how long you’ve been in this relationship, it’s how you respond to this behavior and attempts at controlling that will determine whether you are a victim. If you are willing to accept them on their terms and not stand up for yourself, then you can expect the behavior to continue and possibly worsen. Many times, relationships that begin as mildly manipulative and controlling evolve into more abusive situations where one or both partners eventually leaves battered, bruised, and disillusioned about relationships. Something must be done before it comes to fisticuffs.

Common Tactics Of Manipulative Partners

Partners with this way of relating to people “never do wrong”. They may use distraction in conversations and situations to divert attention away from their undesirable behavior. They may issue direct or indirect threats as a means of controlling your response to them. When these tactics are ineffective, they may resort to periods of time where they are deliberately charming, attentive, and deceitful in an attempt to woo you and win back your good graces. This honeymoon period always ends, however, when they perceive that you have done or said something that is unacceptable to them. Don’t fall for it, it’s yet another in a long line of behaviors designed to try to control your behavior.

What You Can Do About It

Perhaps the biggest decision you need to make is whether or not staying in the relationship is worth your time and effort. Quite often, if the partner is not willing to change or look at his/her own behavior, it’s a lost cause, and you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of heartbreak and pain if you choose to stay.

Should you choose to try to work on your relationship, here are some things you could do to combat their manipulative behavior:

  • Be aware of what is happening: take a rational look at your situation
  • Set boundaries as early and often as possible: let them know how they must treat you
  • Keep them responsible for their actions; have them reflectively look at their actions and behavior
  • Accept no excuses for unacceptable behavior
  • Stand your ground, and be willing to accept the consequences of your own behavior
  • Get support from others around you to help you deal with your situation objectively
  • Act as quickly as possible to send a message that you are focused on change and working on your relationship
  • If nothing is working, then by all means, get out!

No one deserves a relationship that is a stressor in their life. While you must ultimately deal with the consequences of your choices, remember that you DO have a choice. You don’t have to stay if the situation has become unbearable. Stand up for yourself, believe that you deserve more, and be willing to work together to improve your relationship. If your bond is strong enough to weather the changes, you will both come out better on the other side.
